  • How It Works

    Auria looks at protein biomarkers in your tears. These proteins are involved in the early inflammatory process and can be elevated due to any abnormalities in your breast tissue that are associated with breast cancer.

    Unlike DNA or blood, protein biomarkers in your tears give us a clear picture of the molecular events happening in your body.

    Similar to a mammogram, this test does not tell you if you have breast cancer.

Don’t worry, here’s everything you need to know about your kit and the testing process. Get to know your Auria kit and follow step-by-step instructions for sample collection and return.

 

What do my results tell me?

Your Auria® results indicate whether further action is needed based on the protein biomarkers detected in your tears. Auria uses the concentrations of two proteins found in tears (S100A8 &S100A9) together with your age to calculate your Auria result.

Negative Results

Negative

Auria did not detect elevated protein biomarkers in your tears. You're unlikely to have developing tissue abnormalities associated with breast cancer.*

*False negatives can occur. When you discuss your result with a healthcare provider, ask when you should screen again.

Clinically Significant Results

Clinically Significant

Auria detected elevated levels of protein biomarkers in your tears. Your result may be associated with an abnormality in the breast tissue or breast cancer.*

It’s important to know that a clinically significant result is not the same as a cancer diagnosis. If your Auria result is clinically significant additional screening is recommended to rule out cancer.

*False positives can occur. When you discuss your result with a healthcare provider, ask when you should screen again.

Regardless of a negative or clinically significant results, be sure to discuss next steps with your healthcare provider. Auria can be repeated as often as every 6 months.

    Is Auria for me?

    Auria is intended for women ages 30 and over. Auria is for all bodies & all breasts: dense breasts, implants, screening avoidant, or lack of access. For more information on whether you are a good candidate for Auria, visit our About Auria page.

    Auria is not intended for women with an unevaluated palpable mass or area of concern in their breast tissue. It is also not intended for women who no longer have breast tissue.

    Clinical data is not yet available for patients who are currently being treated for breast cancer, have been recently diagnosed with cancer, or are being monitored for reoccurrence.

    Current data only supports biological females at birth with breast tissue. Upcoming clinical trials with our LGBTQIA+ community and biological males at birth is underway to expand Auria’s availability.

    How accurate is Auria?

    Auria has a sensitivity of 92% which means out of 100 women with breast cancer, Auria would classify 92 of those women as clinically significant (or above the diagnostic threshold); the remaining 8 are identified as negative.

    Auria has a specificity of 58%, which means out of 100 normal women, Auria would classify 58 of them as negative.

    We have preferentially selected our algorithm to have a higher sensitivity in order to reduce the number of missed cancers (i.e. false negatives). As with all lab-developed tests, continued use of our assay will allow for optimization of the diagnostic parameters.
